United States

Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday. He is accused of lying to congress while under oath. The indictment came following months of pressure by the Trump Administration to charge James Comey alongiside other “enemies” of the Trump Administration.

Asia

For the first time since 2018 North Korea will be sending officials to the UN General Assembly. It is expected that the Vice Foreign Minister Kim Son-gyong will speak. North Korea has maintained a mission to the UN, which has been run by the mission chief.

Europe

The former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was found guilty of conspiring to fund his 2007 presidential bid with support from Muammar el-Qaddafi, former dictator of Libya. He was sentenced to five years in prison, with him reportedly having to go to prison within the next few weeks regardless of his appeal status.

Americas

Postal worker in Canada have staged a walkout, following the governments decision to end door-door mail service alongside closing some of its rural offices. The decision to consolidate came following significant financial losses over recent years. It is also expected that the postal service will announce layoffs in the near future.


Africa

A Jamaican citizen who was deported by the U.S. to the African nations of Eswatini was sent back to his native country of Jamaica. He was arrested by federal officers while he was working at an immigration shelter this past year. This move follows moves by the Trump Administration to deport people to African countries.

Middle East

Attempts by Russia and China to put a last minute halt to snapback sanctions against Iran failed, with this set of sanctions set to go into place today. The sanctions include an embargo on all arms sales to Iran alongside freezes of assets of individuals tied to Irans Nuclear program.
