The Weekly Report: October 5-11 2025

United States

Due to the government shutdown President Trump has announced that he would layoff dozens of CDC employees including senior scientists. President Trump has said that he would like to use the shutdown as an opportunity to shrink the overall size of the federal government.

Asia

Many Russian officials alongside North Korean officials and Kim Jong Un were in attendance to a military parade in Pyongyang North Korea. Rows of soldiers alongside vehicles carrying missiles drove through the capital. Additionally the parade showed the strong ties between North Korea and Russia as high ranking Russian officials attended such as Dimitri Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia.

Europe

Melania Trump announced that she has been working with President Putin to reunite children who were separated from their families because of the war in Ukraine. She further added that 8 children specifically were reunited with their families with plans for more children to be reunited in the near future.

Americas

Corina Machado, the leader of the opposition movement in Venezuela, won the Nobel Peace Prize. Machado hasn’t been seen in public since summer 2024 following the corrupt elections which saw Nicolas Maduro stay in power. The Nobel Committee said that it chose Machado due to her efforts promote democracy.


Africa

Around 57 people were killed following strikes on the Sudanese city of El Fasher. The city of El Fasher has been a key battleground for the civil war between the R.S.F. and the Sudanes Military. The Sudanese Doctors network said the strike was a violation of international law.

Middle East

The ceasefire in Gaza went into effect on Friday with Gaza’s returning to the north of Gaza for the first time since fighting ceased. The ceasefire was the first move in a plan that will see the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza released in the next few days. Following the release of the hostages more aid will be allowed to enter Gaza.
