United States
President Trump met with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, at Mar-a-lago. President Trump said after the meeting that he would back Israeli strikes on Iran again if Iran continued with its ballistic missile and nuclear missile program. Additionally President Trump made numerous statements of support for the prime minister which will likely help is his re-election effort back home in Israel.
Asia
Cambodia released 18 prisoners of war who were captured during the Cambodia-Thailand conflict in July. The Foreign Ministry of Thailand said that it hopes Cambodia will promote sustained peace between the two nations. The core issue of territorial disagreements remain unresolved between the two nations.
Europe
Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraines military intelligence agency, is set to become to new Chief of Staff. This appointment by President Zelensky follows the departure of Andriy Yermak from the position due to a corruption scandal. This appointment means there will be a leadership shakeup within Ukraines intelligence apparatus.
Americas
President Trump announced that the U.S. military had conducted an operation which resulted in the capture of President Maduro of Venezuela and his wife. Members of the Army’s elite Delta Force Team were responsible for capturing the fugitive. No U.S. Troops were killed in the operation and no military equipment was lost. Maduro has already been charged by the Department of Justice and will be flown to New York soon.
Africa
The African nations of Burkina Faso and Mali announced they had imposed travel bans on American Citizens. This move comes as retaliation after the United States announced it would ban citizens from both nations from traveling to the U.S.
Middle East
For the past week people in Iran have taken to the streets protesting. These latest protests are the largest in the nation since the protests of 2022 which were caused by the death of Mahsa Amini, who died while in police custody. President Trump said he would aid the protesters if the Iranian security services started firing on the protesters. These current protests are not near the scale of the protests that were seen in 2022.
