The Weekly Report: March 1-8 2026

United States

After the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran last week, President Trump has said the United States is not facing a shortage of munitions, a problem many experts have talked about. Presdient Trump has said, following a meeting between himself and numerous U.S. defense contractors, that the defense industry will significantly ramp up weapons production. Moreoever President Trump has said on social media that the U.S. has “unlimited supply of Medium and Upper Medium grade munitions”.

Asia

A Pakistani man has been convicted by a federal jury in Brooklyn, NY of planning to kill U.S. politicians such as President Trump, a plan that was backed by the Iranian government. Asif Merchant was found guilty on charges of attempted terrorism among others. Following the conviction, he faces up to life imprisonment.

Europe

According to U.S. officials, Russia has been sharing intelligence with the Iranian government on the locations of U.S. military personal and ships in the region. Some officials are not concerned with this revelation however as they claim Russia has always shared information of this nature with the Iranian regime.

Americas

The United States and Venezula announced that diplomatic relations between the two nations would be re-established. Previously, diplomatic ties were cut in 2019 by former President Maduro. This latest announcment came as the U.S. interior department secretary Doug Burgum visited Venezuela. This move is the latest since the U.S. captured President Maduro in late December.

Africa

Sanctions were imposed on the Rwandan military by the U.S. due to the Rwandan military reportedly sabotaging part of the peace deal with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Rwanda has enjoyed friendly relations with the U.S. and other Western nations for decades. Days after the peace deal was signed in December, M23, a militia backed by the Rwandan government, siezed the city of Uvira in eastern Congo. This event appears to be what triggered these sanctions.

Middle East

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized on Iranian state TV for the Iranian missles that were launched at numerous gulf states. However, only hours later President Pezeshkian dialed back his previous statment by not apologizing but rather saying that Iran did not target the gulf nations. Iran has been heavly criticized by surrounding Arab nations for targeting civilian infrastructure.
