The Weekly Report: August 3-10

United States

President Trump announced this past week that he was planning to meet with President Putin of Russia this Friday August, August 15.  This will be the first meeting between the two leaders since they last met in 2019. The main goal of the meeting is to find a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, however how likely this is to happen is unclear.

Asia

The leaders from both Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a peace deal at the White House. This peace deal follows years of conflict between the two nations. An important part of the agreement between the two nations was that the United States would establish a transit corridor that would connect Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan, a territory that is west of Armenia.

Europe

President Zelensky of Ukraine has reportedly rejected a deal which would see Ukraine give up land. This statement comes after President Trump said there would be the swapping of some land between the two nations in a future peace deal.

This past week Germany announced it would stop the export of military equipment to Israel that would be used in Gaza. This move comes after Israel announced it would move to take over all of Gaza. The move to suspend the weapons shipments also follows weeks of debates inside Germany about how to deal with the starvation crisis in Gaza.

Americas

The president of Mexico announced that U.S Military forces would not be welcome in her country following news that President Trump authorized the Pentagon to use military force to fight the cartels. The Mexican president further added that her country would work with the U.S. to fight the cartels but there would not be U.S Military in her country.

Africa

A helicopter crash in Ghana resulted in the deaths of the country's Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah, along with seven others. The helicopter was flying from the capital Accra to a mining conference when the helicopter suddenly vanished from radar.

Middle East

Israel announced that it would move to seize all of Gaza using military force. This plan was ultimately approved by Prime Minister Netanyahu. However top officials in the Israel Defense Forces(IDF) have opposed such a move. The IDF leadership reportedly would prefer a ceasefire than renewed military action due to possible troop exhaustion following almost 2 years of war.
