The Weekly Report: August 10-17

United States

On Friday President Trump of the U.S. met with President Putin of Russia. The goal of the meeting was to mainly discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. President Trump went into the meeting hoping that a ceasefire may come of it however that did not happen. In the press conference, following the three hour meeting between President Trump and President Putin along with top aides for both sides, President Putin made it clear that he would like to see the core reasons for the conflict be addressed in a peace agreement in the future. Following the meeting President Trump held phone calls with European officials alongside President Zelensky of Ukraine. President Zelensky is now expected to visit the White House on Monday to discuss the conflict in Ukraine with President Trump. 

The U.S. The government announced that it had put a halt to Visas for Gazans for the time being. This announcement means that Gazans, including children, who were planning to come to the U.S. to receive much needed medical treatment will have to wait. 

Asia

Flash floods this past week in Pakistan resulted in the deaths of around 194 people. The rain that hit Pakistan is one of numerous examples of the horrific monsoon season that South Asia has seen this past summer. Rescue teams were in action on Friday to rescue survivors.  

Europe

   This past week Russia gained more ground in Eastern Ukraine. Russian forces made a breakthrough in Pokrovsk, which is in the Donetsk Region. The Russian Military has surrounded the city, which is a classic tactic they use to force the Ukrainians to retreat. 

Americas

The Toronto Film Festival announced that they would not show a film about the October 7 attacks due to the producers of the film failing to attain rights from Hamas to use GoPro footage. The Film festival said they are working with the producers of the film to be able to make changes to the film to show it.  

Africa

An outbreak of a deadly disease known as Cholera has taken place in Sudan. Medical authorities said that it is the worst outbreak in many years. The Sudan Health Ministry said that there have been over 2400 Cholera related deaths since an outbreak was declared over a year ago.

Middle East

Israel said it had begun to allow more aid supplies into Gaza following weeks of public outcry of the humanitarian issue in Gaza. However aid groups have said that the amount of aid currently entering Gaza still isn't at the levels it needs to be. It is estimated roughly 300 aid trucks are now entering Gaza per day.
