United States
Many of President Trumps tariffs have been ruled illegal by a federal appeals court. The court ruling said that President Trump didn’t hold the authority to enact tariffs on almost all imports to the U.S. Usually congress would have to step in to authorize a tariff policy like the one that has been seen recently.
The Trump administration has announced that Palestinian officials will not be allowed to attend the United Nations(UN) General Assembly in September. Secretary of State, Marc Rubio is the one to have taken the decision. This decision to not handout visas applies to both the Palestinians Authority and the Palestinan Liberation Organization.
Asia
Jimmy Lai, a longtime critic of of the Chinese Connumist Party, saw his trial in Hong Kong come to an end. Lai was on trial over conspiracy to “collude with foreign forces”. This offense falls under the highly controversial National Security law. Lai ran the once popular newspaper Apple Daily in Hong Kong.
Europe
Russia launched a strike on Kyiv, Ukraine this past week which resulted in the deaths of 18 people. Buildings that belong to the E.U. Misson and British Council in Kyiv suffered damage from the strikes. The U.K. has said it has summoned the Russian Ambassador to the U.K. over this latest round of strikes.
Americas
A judge in the U.S. has blocked the possibility for the U.S. to deport Guatemalan children back to Guatemala. Lawyers claimed that the U.S. Government had violated the children’s rights and ignored protections for minors.
Africa
the Sudan Rapid Support Forces shelled a city in the region of Darfu which resulted in the deaths of at least 24 while injuring 55 others. This city has been the center of battle over recent months between the Sudanese Military and the Sudan Rapid Support Forces.
Middle East
Yesterday roughly 17 people were killed in Gaza City as Israel restarted daytime offensives in Gaza. Israel was targeting Hamas Qassem Bridages Spokesman Abu Obeida. Whether the operation to eliminate Obeida was successful is still not clear.
