The World Today In Ten Bullets

  • Six people in Taiwan were arrested following accusations of stealing secrets from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company(TSMC). TSMC, which produces the world's most advanced chips, believed that company files were accessed without the proper authorisation. 

  • It was announced that the trade deficit fell by 16 percent to 60.2 billion dollars. This is the lowest it's been in a while due to recent tariff policies which have caused a significant drop in imports. 

  • Prime Minister Netanyahu met with security officials to discuss the possible full takeover of Gaza. Prime Minister Netanyahu is figuring out what to do next following two years of war. Israel, who is being pressured to reach a ceasefire with Hamas, recently has been criticised for the humanitarian situation in Gaza. 

  • South Korea began removing speakers from its border with North Korea to try and ease tensions between the two nations. These speakers have been previously used for the broadcasting of music and news from the western world.

  • Israel announced that it had begun to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza following weeks of pressure from foreign nations. The humanitarian situation in Gaza has continuously deteriorated with people dying every day as reported by the Health Ministry in Gaza. The Gaza Health Ministry announced that eight people had died in the last 24 hours from starvation. It's important to note that numbers released by the health Ministry in Gaza sometimes are higher than reported by other sources. 

  • The Government of Rwanda announced that it would accept 250 from the U.S. following an agreement being reached between the two nations. 

  • President Zelensky and President Trump had a phone conversation to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine and a possible ceasefire agreement in the future. President Zelensky said the conversation was productive. 

  • President Trump announced he was planning to announce tariffs on the pharmaceutical industry in the next few weeks. The goal of this is to have way more pharmaceuticals made in the U.S. he said.  

  • The interim leader of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus announced that elections would take place in February. This will be the first set of elections since the previous Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina was overthrown last year after 15 years in power.

  • President Trump reported that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told him he did not want to be the next Chair of the Federal Reserve. Current Chair Jerome Powell will step down after his term is up in May.
