The Weekly Report: July 27-August 3
United States
President Trump this past week announced that he would fire Erika McEntarfer, the leader of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This move came as job numbers reported by the agency were lower than what was expected. President Trump claimed that she rigged the data but he failed however to provide any evidence to back such a claim.
President Trump announced that he would impose new tariff rates targeting a wide range of countries. This announcement came as the administration had reached a trade deal with the European Union(EU) and South Korea among other nations. Both South Korea and the EU sought to avoid President Trump's increased tariff rate, which would go into effect on August first, by making a deal.
Asia
Officials from India said they would continue to buy Russian Oil, ignoring threats made by President Trump. President Trump threatened he would impose an additional penalty on India should they continue to buy Russian Oil. This unspecified penalty would assumingly go into effect alongside the 25 percent tariff rate that is now in effect against India.
Europe
The United Kingdom announced they would seek to recognize a sovereign Palestinian State at the United Nations(UN) General Assembly in September. This move follows a similar announcement by France to also recognize a Palestinian State at the UN General Assembly. The decision follows multiple incidents, in recent weeks, at aid distribution sites in Gaza where Israeli Forces have fired on civilians.
South America
In El Salvador, lawmakers got rid of presidential term limits. Additionally term limits were extended from five to six years. Lawmakers from President Bukelele's party said the decision was supposed to help voters be free from the constraint of term limits.
Africa
In Angola, protesters protested in the street due to the hike in fuel prices. These protests quickly turned violent and led to clashes with security forces. The protests followed a three day strike by taxi drivers protesting against the government's rise in gas prices.
Middle East
Steve Witkoff, special envoy for peace related missions went to Gaza to see what the situation was at an aid distribution site. Many Palestinians have been killed at aid distribution sites in recent times. The goal of the visit was to understand what was going on on the ground and understand how civilians in Gaza can get the necessary aid they desperately need.
