The Weekly Report: March 15-22 2026

United States

President Trump and his administration announced this week that they would bypass congress and sell over 23 billion dollars worth of weapons to Middle Eastern allies. Specifically they invoked a wartime emergency as the reasoning for bypassing official approval channels. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said “an emergency exists requiring the immediate approval of critical arms transfers for Middle Eastern partners currently under attack by Iran”.

Asia

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi of Japan met in the Oval Office with President Trump on Thursday. The two discussed the strong relations between Japan and energy and trade deals. During the meeting President Trump made a joke about the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor which has been met with mixed reactions in the media.

Europe

President Zelensky of Ukraine announced that we would be sending a delegation to the U.S. for talks regarding a future peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. Moreover, the Ukrainians met with Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, however Russian officials did not attend the talks The peace talks between the two European nations have been on hold since the outbreak of the war between Iran and the U.S.

Americas

An aid ship departed Mexico for Cuba this past week carrying critical supplies. The aid will be crucial for the island nation that has been under a fuel blockade. This latest delivery of food, medicine, and solar panels is expected to help relieve a little pressure. However, the island will continue to be in need of supplies should this blockade last.

Africa

Roughly 23 people were killed and over 100 injured in bomb attacks all throughout different locations in northeastern Nigeria. Specifically a hospital and two different markets were among the locations targeted. Nigerian military officials suspect the terrorist group Boko Haram is behind the attacks however they have not claimed responsibility as of yet.

Middle East

The war with Iran entered another week with the U.S. and Israel continuously targeting military infrastructure in Iran. On the other hand, shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz has remained largely stagnant due to a threat of attack by Iran. The few ships that have managed to get through have all had the approval of the Iranian regime.
