United States
The U.S. military said Iran fired multiple one-way attack drones towards the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, with four of them being shot down. This is the latest attack by Iran after it fired multiple one-way attack drones the other day, at Kuwait's international airport, which resulted in the death of one civilian and dozens injured. Even though a ceasefire is in place, small attacks like these have continued to take place.
Asia
A deadly fire at a hotel in New Delhi, India, caused the deaths of roughly 21 people, with dozens more injured. The fire is the deadliest one the Indian city has seen in four years. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown; however, police and the local government have opened investigations into the deadly blaze. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, offered his condolences and said the Indian government would give 2,000 dollars to the families of people who died and 500 dollars to the injured.
Europe
Over recent months, speculation has risen as to whether or not Russia will soon wrap up its invasion of Ukraine. However, President Putin of Russia said, while speaking to the media at the St. Petersburg economic forum, “Russian troops are advancing along the entire line of contact.” This statement is far from reality, as last month the Russian military failed to achieve any significant advancement along the front line.
Americas
The United States has introduced new regulations that will result in three international hotel chains and one bank having to end all operations in Cuba. Specifically, foreign companies were required to pull out by this past Friday; otherwise, their business leaders risked losing travel visas to the U.S. and having their assets frozen.
Africa
On Thursday, gunfights erupted in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu. Residents have reported the fighting to be the worst in years. Government forces were reportedly fighting militia groups that are loyal to the president’s rivals. Some residents have reportedly fled their homes to ensure their safety, while many people have avoided going out in the streets as the fighting continues.
Middle East
After many months of uncertainty, the Iranian soccer team was issued visas to enter the United States and participate in the World Cup. However, many members of the team's support staff were denied visas. Last month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said officials with ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps would not be allowed to enter the U.S. with the Iranian soccer team.
