United States
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador in the spring is now fighting possible deportation to Uganda. The justice department said that if Garcia pleaded guilty to certain charges he would be deported to Costa Rica where he would be safe. However Garcia's lawyers said no, prompting the Justice Department to begin preparations to send him to Uganda on Monday.
President Trump announced that he was appointing Sergio Gor, the current head of presidential appointments, to be U.S. Ambassador to India. Gor will still need to be approved by the senate after which, if confirmed, he will be able to take the post.
Asia
The former President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested this past week over charges that he used public funds for his travel. Wickremesinghe was not granted bail and will remain in jail until at least Tuesday.
Europe
Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov said that there is yet to be a planned meeting between President Zelensky of Ukraine and President Putin of Russia. This comes after President Trump said last week that he would set up a Tri-lateral meeting between himself, Zelensky, and Putin.
Americas
Former President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro reportedly had plans to seek asylum in Argentina last year, according to police from Brazil. Police from Brazil said they had found a document on Bolsonaro's phone requesting asylum. The former president is due to stand trial next month over charges of planning a coup in 2022.
Africa
Uganda announced this past week that it had come to a deal with the U.S. to accept a small amount of deportees from the U.S. The deportees will not include any unaccompanied minors or people who have criminal records.
Middle East
This past week U.S. Central Command said that a group of special force operators killed an Islamic State financier. Few details were provided, nor was a name provided for the person who was killed.
