  • The chair of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell sent signals during announcement today that the Fed could potentially move to cut interest rates in September. This is sure to make President Trump happy. President Trump has been pushing for months for interest rates to be cut.

  • The FBI raided the home of former national security adviser John Bolton. The raid is connected to an ongoing investigation into the mishandling of classified documents. Bolton was the national security adviser during President Trumps first term from 2018 to 2019.

  • Kaja Kallas, the European Unions(EU) number one diplomat said that Ukraine should not have to give up any of its land to Russia. Kallas added that Russia has yet to make any concessions while it wants Ukraine to give up land.

  • In Florida, a federal judge ordered that construction at Alligator Alcatraz must come to a halt while also ordering part of the facility be torn down. Additionally the judge said that no more detainees should be brought the the prison.

  • The IPC, an organization backed by the United Nations(UN) said that famine had been officially confirmed in Gaza City. On the contrary Israel said that it strongly denies the findings. This news comes as Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel approved a plan to takeover Gaza City.

  • A Ukrainan man was arrested in Italy over suspected connection to the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline which was blown up in 2022. No country has ever taken responsibility for the attack, while Russia and the U.S. have both said it was an act of sabotage.

  • President Trump announced that U.S. cities such as Chicago and New York could be next to see federal law enforcement takeover following Washington DC. President Trump said that the increase in federal law enforcement in DC has led to a steep downturn in homicides in the nations capital.

  • The former president of Sri Lanka was arrested over allegations of misuse of funds. Ranil Wickremesinghe, was the president of Sri Lanka from 2022 to 2024 following the overthrow of the country’s previous president.

  • President Xi Jinping of china announced that his country would host a summit with the heads over roughly 20 countries next moth which will include President Putin of Russia alongside Antonio Guterres, the UN chief.

  • The former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra was acquitted by a Thai court over royal insult charges. Insulting the royal monarchy in Thailand can carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, a penalty that the former prime minister will avoid.
