The Weekly Report: September 7-14 2025

United States

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA was shot and killed by a gunmen while at a speaking event at a college in Utah. It took the FBI a little more than a day to apprehend the killer after his father persuaded him to turn himself in. The motive behind the murder is still unclear.

Asia

Nepal, who say its government collapse this past week, now has a former justice of Nepals Supreme Court as its interim leader. Sushila Karki was previously a chief justice on the Supreme Court of Nepal, but now will have to lead a country that has been out of control for about a week. Protests were initiated due to a controversial banning of social media in the country. The former Prime Minister Sharma Oli was ousted as a result of the protests.

Europe

In Poland, roughly a dozen Russian drones entered its airspace. Subsequently the drones were immediately shot down by Polis air defense systems. Many western officials were quick to condemn Russia for seemingly escalating the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Following the drone incursion into Poland, a Russian drone entered Romanian airspace. It is unclear what happened to the drone that entered Romanian airspace.

Americas

The former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro was convicted of a coup attempt and sentenced to 27 years by the nations Supreme Court. However many political leaders in Brazil are pushing for amnesty. In all previous 14 coup attempts in the country since 1889 all of the perpetrators were granted amnesty. So it is expected that the same will be granted to Jair Bolsonaro.

Africa

The lawyers of a group of migrants who were deported from the U.S. to Ghana last week have filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration for ignoring court ordered protection for their five clients. There is concern that Ghana could now deport these migrants back to their home country where they could face possible persecution and/or torture.

Middle East

the foreign minister of several Arab countries met in Doha to discuss a response to Israels strike against the Hamas political headquarters in Doha, Qatar. Many countries condemned Israels actions following the strike, citing a violation of International law. Qatar has been a critical intermediary in recent negotiations between Israeli and Hamas officials. Time will tell what Qatar plans to do next.
